Animal Collective

Animal Collective es una de las bandas favoritas de la redacción. Originaria de Baltimore, Maryland y ahora asentada en Nueva York, se conforma por Avey Tare (David Porter), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox, Deakin, también escrito Deacon o Deaken (Josh Dibb) y Gelogist (Brian Weitz). Cuando firman como Animal Collective significa que las grabaciones (o presentaciones) incluyen a alguno o a todos los miembros, ya que la alineación no es siempre la misma. Han publicado los siguientes discos:

En fechas recientes acaban de lanzar el EP Fall Be Kind (Caída se gentil) que reúne aquellas canciones que no tuvieron cabida en el Merriweather Post Pavillion(quizá uno de los mejores discos del año) pero que curiosamente conforman una unidad bastante agradable de escuchar en conjunto. Se trata quizá de una de las bandas más propositivas de los últimos tiempos; o una de las que más activamente se ha dedicado a hacer crecer las posibilidades de las composiciones contemporáneas. Animal Collective es, antes que una banda, un conjunto de personas dedicadas a la expresión creativa. En este mes de enero será estrenado su primer documental visual, titulado ODDSAC y dirigido por Danny Pérez (quien ha colaborado en múltiples ocasiones con la banda), en el Sundance Filmfestival, 2010. Las declaraciones oficiales hablan de una experiencia audiovisual psicodélica cuyo hilo narrativo se basa en la experimentación y en la sensibilidad artística de los integrantes del grupo. Se habla más de un álbum visual que de un documental sobre su historia o su trayectoria. Tardaron cerca de cuatro años en terminarlo, y su primera proyección ya está confirmada para el martes, 26 de enero en el Prospector Square Theatre en Park City, Utah. En poco tiempo serán anunciados los detalles de la gira que se organizará a su alrededor.

Animal Collective

Animal Collective is one of Cantartica’s favorite bands. It was originally formed in Baltimore, Maryland and is now based in New York. Animal Collective consists of Avey Tare (David Portner), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), Deakin (Josh Dibb) and Gelogist (Brian Weitz). Records released under the name Animal Collective include contributions from any or all of its members since the lineup may vary. They’ve published the following albums:

Some weeks ago they released the EP Fall be kind, mostly culled from the outtakes of Merriweather Post Pavillion (maybe one of 2009 best albums). A five track record that confirms the immensity of the band and that really works as a unit. Animal Collective has become one of the most adventured and experimental band of these late years; or at least one that has expanded the possibilities of contemporary compositions. Animal Collective is, apart from a band and first of all, a group of people which is really devoted to creative expression in many ways. They’re about to release their first visual documentary: ODDSAC, directed by frequent collaborator Danny Perez, in 2010 Sundance Film Festival. Apparently its not a narrative film but a psychedelic experience which could be taken more as a visual album than a traditional documentary about their life and experiences. Its narrative therefore is built from the artistic sensibility of the group. It took about four years to film it and its first projection is scheduled for Tuesday, January 26 on Prospector Square Theatre in Park City, Utah. The details for the spring tour will be released shortly.
