Hello Seahorse!, no todos los caramelos son dulces

Yo también, como afirman las primeras canciones de Bestia (2009), he caminado por las calles buscando mi casa y muchas veces, en el trayecto, me he sentido verdaderamente transparente, confuso, perdido. Me hacen pensar en la nostofobia (el miedo a volver a casa), pero necesito encontrarme de vuelta… Se trata de un disco que poco a poco se convierte en espejo. Te explica los paisajes siniestros, los momentos más frágiles, las posibles salidas del laberinto. De pronto parece que todo es cierto, que allí has estado, cuando todos se ahogaron (para siempre) en el mar, o peleando contra el demonio de turno, que te visita. Tiene una cualidad envolvente, de identificación inmediata. ¿Será que nuestros monstruos siempre son atractivos? La fuerza de Bestia viene de adentro (todos tenemos una bestia por dentro), de los matices exquisitos que alcanza la voz de Lo Blondo (voz, coros, letras) cuando se duele al igual que cuando se encuentra, de súbito, esperanzada ante las posibilidades: tal vez hoy me van a matar/ tal vez hoy me van a sanar.

Es como si las olas estallaran al interior, agitadas por nosotros en un arranque inesperado y autodestructivo. Un compendio de fantasmas nuestros, de cánticos que nos salvan, de caricias. La búsqueda de una atadura que no se deshaga (si me ves caminando en las calles es que busco mi jaula otra vez), de un pretexto cualquiera para deambular voluntariamente y para desdecirse. El ruido interior se hace tan grande que sólo esa voz al fondo nos ayuda (a la vez que nos hunde), llevándonos por un paseo sorprendente. Las secuencias programadas por Oro de Neta (teclados, sintetizadores y bajos) delimitan un espacio que de pronto se rompe, dejándonos sólo el silencio, los ruidos, los estertores de las bestias voraces que habitan al interior.

Pero luego algo pasa y lo roto se ensambla de nuevo (la herida abierta se cura). Suenan notas alegres, voces deslumbrantes. Los tambores de Bonnz! (batería y percusiones) nos reaniman, nos suben: esto es música pop, camaradas, parece decir. Hello Seahorse! (Ciudad de México, 2005) ha logrado consolidarse con Bestia, su tercer disco, demostrando que son dueños de una sensibilidad verdaderamente admirable. Han reclutado a un nuevo integrante: Joe (guitarras, teclados y bajo) que ya ha participado en numerosos recitales y cuya aportación ha terminado de darle al grupo un sonido más serio, perfecto para este disco.

Hello Seahorse!, not all candies are sweet

Just as the first tunes of Bestia (2009) say I’ve walked the streets many times searching for a home. And many times too, I’ve felt invisible, confused and lost. They make me think about nostofobia (the fear of going back home), but I have the need to find myself there… This record slowly turns into a mirror. It explains the sinister landscapes, the fragile moments, the possible exits of a labyrinth. It all suddenly seems real: you’ve been there, when everyone drowned (forever) at sea; or fighting against the demon that came to visit. It has a surrounding quality of immediate identification. Could it be that our monsters are always appealing? The strength of Bestia comes from within (todos tenemos una bestia por dentro/ we all have a beast inside), right from the exquisite moments Lo Blondo’s (voice & lyrics) voice reaches, no matter if she’s hurting or hopeful (tal vez hoy me van a matar/ tal vez hoy me van a sanar /maybe today I’m gonna get killed/ maybe today I’m gonna get healed).

It’s like the sea waves are crashing inside, only that they’re agitated by us, in a sudden and self destructive impulse. It’s a compendium of ghosts of our own, of healing chants and caresses. The lookout for something well tied (si me ves caminando en las calles es que busco mi jaula otra vez/ If you see me walking the streets it’s cause I’m searching for my cage again), and for a pretext that let us ramble and take our words away. The internal noise grows so much that only the background voice pull us through and at the same time pull us down, taking us into an amazing journey. The sequences programmed by Oro de Neta (synthesizers, keyboards & bass) delimit a space that suddenly breaks, leaving us just the silence, the noise, the rasping breaths of the voracious beasts that inhabit inside.

But then something happens and what is broken reassembles again (the open wound heals). We hear joyful notes and dazzling voices. Bonnz!’s (drums & percussions) drums reanímate and elevate us: this is pop music, folks, they seem tos ay. Hello Seahorse! (Mexico City, 2005) have consolidated with Bestia, their third álbum. Proving that they own a truly admirable sensibility. They’ve recruited a new member: Joe (guitars, keyboards & bass) that has already played in many gigs and whose contribution to the band has made a more serious sound; perfect for this album.
